Marketing Claims Vs. Reality
Powerful antioxidant, aids in production of energy, helps relieve muscle pain
These lines are on the front label. CoQ10 is part of the mitochondrial energy chain, so the energy wording describes its role in the body. For muscle symptoms the evidence is weak: a pooled analysis in statin users found no significant effect (Banach 2015). None of it was tested on this product.
200 mg of ubiquinone per capsule
The figure is printed on the Supplement Facts panel. No independent assay is published, so it is the label's own number.
Vegetable capsule
Cellulose capsule and rice flour are the only inactive ingredients on the panel.
What Our Test Actually Found
The form decides the ranking
Most of the ranked picks deliver CoQ10 in an oil-based softgel, and the top four use ubiquinol. A dry ubiquinone capsule is the simplest and cheapest way to make CoQ10, and it scores accordingly.
Label and shop text disagree on the dose
The panel says one capsule per serving and 30 servings per bottle. The shop text says one capsule twice a day. We scored the label; at two capsules a day the bottle lasts 15 days and the monthly cost doubles.
What would move the score
An oil-based softgel or a switch to ubiquinol, a named and licensed source, and a published lab report. Each of those is worth about half a point to a full point in our method.
Full analysis: all pros & cons (7), buy if / skip if
- 200 mg in a single capsule, the top of the general-use range
- Two inactive ingredients: vegetable capsule and rice flour
- Suitable for vegetarians
- Sold direct from our own shop
- Dry powder capsule: no oil or piperine to help absorption
- The CoQ10 source is not named and no lab report is published
- $35 a month is more than the ranked ubiquinone softgels cost
- You are under 40 and want 200 mg in a single capsule
- You want a vegetarian capsule with two inactive ingredients
- You want to buy direct from the shop behind this site
- You take a statin or are over 40; the ubiquinol picks at the top are scored for you
- You want a named, licensed CoQ10 source; Doctor's Best states Kaneka
- Cost matters; Doctor's Best is about $0.13 per 100 mg
CoQ10 is fat-soluble, which is why most of the ranked picks deliver it in an oil-based softgel, and why the top four use ubiquinol, the reduced form that older adults and statin users absorb better. This capsule is ubiquinone as dry powder. For a healthy adult under 40 who takes it with a meal that is workable; for the groups with the strongest evidence it is the wrong form.
This is our own product, and we scored it with the same five criteria as every other CoQ10 on our lists. The Supplement Facts panel shows 200 mg of coenzyme Q10 as ubiquinone in a single capsule, with a vegetable capsule and rice flour as the only other ingredients. The dose is right. The form is the plainest one: a dry powder with no oil carrier. The label names no CoQ10 supplier and no lab report is published.
A plain 200 mg capsule that the ubiquinol picks outclass
Our CoQ10 gets the dose right and keeps the label short. It ranks near the bottom because the form is the plainest one, the source is unnamed and nothing is published about testing. If you take a statin or are over 40, buy one of the ubiquinol picks at the top. If you are younger, take it with a meal that contains some fat.
