Our Verdict

Skip it if you want lion's mane the way the trials used it: fruiting body with verified beta-glucans. This is an organic blend with mycelium that states polysaccharides, shows no testing and costs $45 a month.

Why It Scores 5.1 — And The Label Line Behind Each Number

Form honesty (fruiting body vs mycelium-on-grain)

40% of score
5.0

The panel reads fruiting body and mycelium powder. The fruiting-body part is what the trials used; the mycelium part usually brings grain starch with it. The label does not give the split, and it is a powder, not an extract.

Active form
Organic Hericium erinaceus fruiting body and mycelium powder; the split is not stated

Verified beta-glucans (not 'polysaccharides')

25% of score
5.0

The label states 40% polysaccharides, 400 mg per serving. That is the figure this criterion is named against: starch is a polysaccharide too. No beta-glucan percentage is given.

Standardisation
40% polysaccharides (400 mg); no beta-glucan figure

1,000 mg of powder per serving, not an extract. The main trial used 3 g of fruiting body a day (Mori 2009).

The ingredient line says organic. We could read no certifier's seal, and no heavy-metal, microbial or potency testing is stated on the label or the shop page.

$45 for 30 servings is $1.50 a serving, the highest on the list. Real Mushrooms costs about $32 a month.

Marketing Claims Vs. Reality

Supports memory, focus and brain health

This line is on the front label. Small trials found cognitive benefits with gram-level doses of fruiting body in older adults (Mori 2009, Saitsu 2019). A 1,000 mg fruiting-body and mycelium blend has not been tested.

Partial
Standardized to 40% polysaccharides

Printed on the Supplement Facts panel. No independent assay is published, and polysaccharides are not the same as beta-glucans.

False
Extract

The shop title calls the product an extract. The Supplement Facts panel lists fruiting body and mycelium powder.

The Deep Dive

What Our Test Actually Found

01

Polysaccharides are the wrong yardstick

Any grain-grown mycelium product can post a high polysaccharide figure, because starch counts. Beta-glucans are the fraction that marks real mushroom content, and the label does not report them.

02

The shop title and the label disagree

The shop calls it an extract. The panel says powder. We scored what the panel says.

03

What would move the score

A pure fruiting-body extract with a tested beta-glucan percentage on the label. That is what the top of the list sells for less.

Full analysis: all pros & cons (7), buy if / skip if
Pros
  • Organic, single ingredient, vegan capsule
  • Contains fruiting body, the part the human trials used
  • 1,000 mg per serving with the standardisation printed
  • Sold direct from our own shop
Cons
  • Blended with mycelium, which usually carries grain starch
  • Polysaccharides are stated, not beta-glucans
  • $45 a month, more than the fruiting-body extracts at the top
Buy If
  • You want an organic lion's mane in a vegan capsule and accept a blend
  • You like the standardisation printed, even if it is polysaccharides
  • You want to buy direct from the shop behind this site
Skip If
  • You want pure fruiting body with verified beta-glucans; Real Mushrooms and FreshCap lead the list
  • Price matters; the top extracts cost about a third less per month
  • You want published third-party testing

The human trials used the fruiting body. Mycelium is typically grown on grain and dried with it, so a blend carries starch that counts as polysaccharide on a label without being the beta-glucan you want. The top picks are fruiting-body extracts with a printed, tested beta-glucan percentage, for about $30 a month.

This is our own product, and we scored it with the same five criteria as every other lion's mane on our list. The Supplement Facts panel shows 1,000 mg of organic lion's mane fruiting body and mycelium powder per two capsules, standardised to 40% polysaccharides. Our method puts most of its weight on two things: a pure fruiting-body source and a verified beta-glucan figure. This is a blend with mycelium, it reports polysaccharides instead, and at $45 a month it costs more than the extracts that lead the list.

The Bottom Line

Organic and cleanly made, and not what the evidence points to

Our lion's mane is an organic blend in a clean capsule. By our criteria it ranks last: the list is built on pure fruiting-body extracts with verified beta-glucans, and this is a powder blend that reports polysaccharides and costs more. If you want lion's mane for focus or memory, buy one of the top two.

Double-blind trial in older adults with mild cognitive impairment: 3 g a day of lion's mane fruiting-body powder for 16 weeks improved cognitive scores against placebo, and the gain faded after stopping.
  2. [2] Saitsu 2019 PMID 31413233 — Improvement of cognitive functions by oral intake of Hericium erinaceus. Trial in 31 healthy older adults: 2.4 g/day of Hericium erinaceus for 12 weeks significantly improved scores on a standardized Japanese cognitive test, with good safety and adherence. A supporting cognition signal in a non-impaired older population that backs the fruiting-body, weeks-long approach.
