  1. #1
    Best overall
Legion Phoenix Thermogenic Fat Burner, caffeinated, 90 capsules — from Amazon listing

    Legion Phoenix Thermogenic Fat Burner

Legion Athletics · 100% transparent label (no proprietary blends) · green tea (EGCG), synephrine, forskolin
SAC Product Score™ — how it breaks down
    • Transparent / effective dosing35%9.5
    • Evidence-backed ingredients30%8.9
    • Purity & testing20%9.2
    • Value (cost per serving)15%8.4

The most transparent, best-made thermogenic here — every ingredient and dose disclosed (no proprietary blends), an evidence-backed core, and both caffeinated and stim-free versions. The default honest fat burner, with realistic expectations attached.

Premium — full transparency + research framing
Higher per serving (30 servings, 90 caps)
    Proprietary blend?
No — 100% transparent, every dose disclosed
    Core ingredients
Green tea (EGCG), synephrine, forskolin (caffeinated + stim-free versions)
    Formulation
No artificial dyes; brand built on full label transparency
    Size
    90 capsules (30 servings)
    Pros
    • 100% transparent formula — every ingredient and exact dose disclosed, zero proprietary blends
    • Evidence-minded core (green tea EGCG + synephrine + forskolin), all openly dosed
    • Caffeinated AND caffeine-free versions, so you can match your stimulant tolerance
    • Naturally colored, no artificial dyes; from a brand whose whole pitch is transparency
    Cons
    • Premium price per serving — you pay for the transparency and research framing
    • It's still a caffeine + green-tea pill: a marginal aid, not a fat-loss drug

Our take — If you want one fat burner and you want it done right, Legion Phoenix is it. The entire formula is transparent — every ingredient and dose printed, no proprietary blends to hide behind — which in this category is the single most important thing a product can do. The core ingredients are the ones with actual (if modest) evidence, openly dosed, and there's a caffeine-free version for stimulant-sensitive users. Hold honest expectations: this is, at heart, a well-built caffeine + green-tea pill, and the science says that's a small effect. But as the most transparent, cleanest, best-made thermogenic on the shelf — layered on top of a real calorie deficit — it's the one to buy, which is exactly why it's #1.

  2. #2
    Best value
Jacked Factory Burn-XT Thermogenic Fat Burner, 60 capsules — from Amazon listing

Jacked Factory Burn-XT Thermogenic Fat Burner

Jacked Factory · clinically-studied, fully disclosed doses · green tea extract + acetyl-L-carnitine + caffeine
SAC Product Score™ — how it breaks down
    • Transparent / effective dosing35%9.0
    • Evidence-backed ingredients30%8.6
    • Purity & testing20%8.7
    • Value (cost per serving)15%9.4

A transparent, clinically-dosed caffeine + green-tea burner at the lowest cost per serving here, from a long-running Amazon best-seller. The cheapest honest thermogenic on the list.

Lowest cost per serving (60 ct)
Lowest per serving on the list (60 ct, 2 caps/day)
    Proprietary blend?
No — clinically-studied doses, fully disclosed
    Caffeine
    ~135 mg per serving (moderate)
    Core ingredients
    Green tea extract + acetyl-L-carnitine + caffeine
    Size
    60 capsules (30 servings)
    Pros
    • Transparent, clinically-studied doses — no hidden proprietary blend
    • Moderate caffeine + green tea: the two ingredients that do the (small) work
    • Long-running Amazon best-seller with broad, consistent reviews
    • The lowest cost per serving of any pick here
    Cons
    • Includes acetyl-L-carnitine, whose oral fat-loss evidence is weak (the caffeine/green tea carry it)
    • Still a moderate-stimulant pill — count the ~135 mg caffeine against your coffee

Our take — Burn-XT is the value play and a genuinely smart default. You get a transparent, clinically-studied label (no proprietary blend), moderate caffeine plus green tea — the parts that actually matter — and the lowest cost per serving on this list, from a product that's been an Amazon best-seller for years. It sits at #2 only because Legion's transparency and clean formulation edge it at the top, and because some of its supporting ingredients (acetyl-L-carnitine) are weakly evidenced for fat loss. But for the honest goal here — a transparent, sensibly-dosed caffeine + green-tea burner at the best price — it's the one to buy. Pair it with a calorie deficit and treat it as the small nudge it is.

  3. #3
    Best for energy + focus
RSP Nutrition QuadraLean Thermogenic Fat Burner, 60 servings — from Amazon listing

    RSP QuadraLean Thermogenic Fat Burner

RSP Nutrition · fully disclosed dosages, GMP · green tea caffeine + grains of paradise + cayenne + choline/Alpha-GPC
SAC Product Score™ — how it breaks down
    • Transparent / effective dosing35%8.7
    • Evidence-backed ingredients30%8.4
    • Purity & testing20%8.5
    • Value (cost per serving)15%8.4

Fully disclosed green-tea caffeine + grains of paradise + cayenne, with choline and Alpha-GPC for focus, from a GMP facility. The pick if training energy and focus are the real job.

    Mid-priced — energy + focus stack
    Good per serving (60 servings)
    Proprietary blend?
No — fully disclosed dosages, GMP certified
    Stimulants
Natural caffeine (green tea) + bitter-orange synephrine
    Focus stack
Choline + Alpha-GPC; grains of paradise + cayenne for thermo
    Size
    60 servings
    Pros
    • Every dose disclosed from a GMP-certified facility — no hidden blend
    • Green tea caffeine + grains of paradise + cayenne, the openly-dosed thermo ingredients
    • Choline + Alpha-GPC give a genuine focus/energy angle for training
    • Fair cost per serving for a fully-transparent formula
    Cons
    • Contains bitter-orange synephrine, a stimulant that adds to the caffeine load
    • Focus ingredients don't burn fat — the effect is still small and deficit-dependent

Our take — QuadraLean Thermo is the pick for someone whose real goal is training energy and focus, dosed honestly. The label is fully transparent and GMP-made, the thermogenic ingredients (green-tea caffeine, grains of paradise, cayenne) are openly dosed, and the choline/Alpha-GPC adds a legitimate focus angle that a plain caffeine pill doesn't. It lands at #3 on two honest counts: it leans on bitter-orange synephrine, which stacks more stimulant load on top of the caffeine, and — like everything here — its fat-loss effect is small and only shows up alongside a deficit. If you want a transparent burner with an energy/focus tilt and you tolerate stimulants well, it's an easy, honest choice.

  4. #4
    Best to keep muscle
Old School Labs Vintage Burn Thermogenic Fat Burner, 120 capsules — from Amazon listing

Old School Labs Vintage Burn Thermogenic Fat Burner

Old School Labs · transparent label, USA-made · green coffee bean + green tea + caffeine, muscle-preserving framing
SAC Product Score™ — how it breaks down
    • Transparent / effective dosing35%8.5
    • Evidence-backed ingredients30%8.2
    • Purity & testing20%8.6
    • Value (cost per serving)15%7.6

A transparent, openly-dosed thermogenic positioned to preserve lean muscle while you cut — caffeine + green tea + green coffee, no proprietary blend, USA-made. The pick for dieters who lift.

    Premium — established muscle-preserving brand
    Mid-high per serving (120 caps)
    Proprietary blend?
No — transparent label, doses disclosed
    Core ingredients
Green coffee bean + green tea + caffeine + raspberry ketones
    Positioning
Formulated to preserve lean muscle while burning fat
    Size
120 capsules; made in the USA
    Pros
    • Transparent label from a long-established, well-reviewed USA brand
    • Caffeine + green tea + green coffee — the evidence-backed core, openly dosed
    • Marketed and formulated around preserving muscle during a cut — a sensible framing for dieters who lift
    • 120-capsule bottle and a strong reputation for a clean experience (no jitters/crash)
    Cons
    • Includes raspberry ketones, which have essentially no good human fat-loss evidence
    • Premium price per serving; 'muscle-preserving' is framing, not a guarantee

Our take — Vintage Burn is the choice for the dieter who lifts and worries about losing muscle while cutting. It's a transparent, openly-dosed formula from a well-established USA brand, built on the evidence-backed core (caffeine, green tea, green coffee) and explicitly positioned to spare lean mass — a framing that resonates if you're training hard in a deficit. It sits at #4 honestly: it carries raspberry ketones (a near-zero-evidence ingredient that pads the label), it's priced at a premium, and 'muscle-preserving' is marketing language, not a clinical promise — the muscle is actually protected by your protein intake and training, not the pill. Still, as a clean, transparent thermogenic with a sensible cutting-focused angle, it's a solid pick.

  5. #5
    Best stimulant-free
Genius Burn caffeine-free thermogenic fat burner, 60 vegetable capsules — from Amazon listing

    Genius Burn Caffeine-Free Thermogenic

The Genius Brand · 100% transparent, caffeine-FREE · 9 disclosed ingredients (Capsimax, KSM-66 ashwagandha, TeaCrine, Cognizin)
SAC Product Score™ — how it breaks down
    • Transparent / effective dosing35%8.9
    • Evidence-backed ingredients30%7.4
    • Purity & testing20%8.4
    • Value (cost per serving)15%7.0

A fully-transparent, caffeine-FREE thermogenic with nine openly-dosed, evidence-minded ingredients for focus and appetite. The honest pick for stimulant-sensitive users — no jitters, no blood-pressure bump, no ruined sleep.

    Premium — caffeine-free, focus-oriented
    Higher per serving (60 V-caps, 30 servings)
    Proprietary blend?
No — all 9 ingredients individually dosed
    Caffeine
    Zero — caffeine-free formula
    Core ingredients
Capsimax cayenne, KSM-66 ashwagandha, TeaCrine, Cognizin, more
    Size
    60 vegetable capsules (30 servings)
    Pros
    • 100% transparent, no proprietary blend — every one of its nine ingredients is dosed
    • Caffeine-FREE: no jitters, no heart-rate/blood-pressure bump, won't wreck sleep
    • Capsimax + ashwagandha + nootropics give a focus/appetite angle without stimulants
    • Ideal for stimulant-sensitive users or anyone already getting plenty of caffeine
    Cons
    • Removing caffeine removes the main lever — so the fat-loss effect is gentler than a caffeinated burner
    • Premium price; several ingredients are focus/stress-oriented rather than fat-loss-proven

Our take — Genius Burn is the honest answer to a specific question: 'I want a thermogenic but caffeine is a problem.' It's fully transparent with no proprietary blend, completely caffeine-free, and built around Capsimax, KSM-66 ashwagandha and nootropics for focus and appetite rather than a stimulant jolt — so no jitters, no blood-pressure bump, no sleep disruption. The trade-off is exactly what the science predicts: take away the caffeine and you take away the burner's main lever, so the fat-loss effect here is gentle and the price is premium. But for stimulant-sensitive people, late-day use, or anyone already maxed out on coffee, it's the most transparent stim-free option on the list — and far more honest than a hidden 'caffeine-free blend.'

  6. #6
    Mainstream pick
Cellucor SuperHD Thermogenic Fat Burner, 60 capsules — from Amazon listing

    Cellucor SuperHD Thermogenic Fat Burner

Cellucor · partial disclosure (named 'Sensory Blend') · 160 mg caffeine + GreenSelect green tea + Capsimax + yohimbe
SAC Product Score™ — how it breaks down
    • Transparent / effective dosing35%7.2
    • Evidence-backed ingredients30%7.9
    • Purity & testing20%8.0
    • Value (cost per serving)15%7.4

A popular mainstream thermogenic with a sensible 160 mg caffeine, GreenSelect green tea and Capsimax — but it tucks several ingredients into a named 'Sensory Blend' and includes yohimbe. Fine, but not as clean as the top picks.

    Mid-priced — widely available brand
Good per serving (60 caps, 1/serving)
    Proprietary blend?
Partial — several ingredients inside a named 'Sensory Blend'
    Caffeine
    160 mg per serving (moderate)
    Core ingredients
GreenSelect green tea phytosome + Capsimax cayenne + caffeine
    Stimulant note
Contains yohimbe + rauwolfia (extra stimulant load)
    Pros
    • Sensible 160 mg caffeine plus GreenSelect green tea and Capsimax — a reasonable evidence-backed core
    • Widely available, established mainstream brand with solid QA
    • Single-capsule serving and a fair price
    • Discloses the headline caffeine dose up front
    Cons
    • Tucks several ingredients into a named 'Sensory Blend' instead of disclosing each dose
    • Contains yohimbe and rauwolfia — extra stimulants that raise the side-effect load (anxiety, jitters, BP)

Our take — SuperHD is a perfectly mainstream, widely-available thermogenic with a sensible core — 160 mg of caffeine, GreenSelect green tea and Capsimax are exactly the ingredients you want to see, and it's a fair price from a brand with real QA. It drops to #6 for two honest reasons: it bundles several ingredients into a named 'Sensory Blend' rather than disclosing each dose (less transparent than the top picks), and it includes yohimbe and rauwolfia, which pile extra stimulant load on top of the caffeine and raise the odds of jitters, anxiety and a blood-pressure bump. If you already like Cellucor and tolerate stimulants, it's a reasonable buy — but the fully-transparent, cleaner-stim options above it are the better tools.

  7. #7
    Strongest transparent stim
Jacked Factory Burn-XT Black Thermogenic Fat Burner, 90 vegetable capsules — from Amazon listing

Jacked Factory Burn-XT Black Thermogenic Fat Burner

Jacked Factory · transparent label, stronger stim · caffeine + TeaCrine + acetyl-L-carnitine + green tea, 90 veg caps
SAC Product Score™ — how it breaks down
    • Transparent / effective dosing35%7.6
    • Evidence-backed ingredients30%7.0
    • Purity & testing20%7.8
    • Value (cost per serving)15%7.2

A transparent, higher-stimulant version of Burn-XT — caffeine plus TeaCrine for a stronger, longer energy hit. Cleanly labeled, but the extra stimulant push is the point, so it's a niche pick.

    Mid-priced — stronger-stimulant variant
    Good per serving (90 caps)
    Proprietary blend?
No — transparent label, doses disclosed
    Stimulants
Caffeine + TeaCrine (theacrine) for a stronger, longer-lasting hit
    Core ingredients
    Green tea extract + acetyl-L-carnitine + caffeine + TeaCrine
    Size
    90 vegetable capsules
    Pros
    • Transparent label (no proprietary blend), unusual for a higher-stim product
    • Caffeine + TeaCrine give a stronger, longer-lasting energy/focus hit than standard Burn-XT
    • Green tea extract keeps an evidence-backed ingredient in the mix
    • Reasonable price from a reputable, widely-reviewed brand
    Cons
    • The whole point is MORE stimulant — more energy, but more jitters/sleep-disruption risk, not more proven fat loss
    • Leans on TeaCrine and acetyl-L-carnitine, whose fat-loss evidence is limited

Our take — Burn-XT Black is the transparent option for someone who specifically wants a stronger stimulant kick — caffeine plus TeaCrine (theacrine) for a bigger, longer-lasting energy and focus hit, all on a cleanly disclosed label. Credit where due: most 'hardcore' burners hide behind a proprietary blend, and this one doesn't. But it ranks at #7 by our criteria precisely because its selling point is more stimulant, and more stimulant means more side-effect risk (jitters, anxiety, disrupted sleep) without more proven fat loss — the evidence rewards sensible caffeine, not maximal. If you tolerate stimulants well and want the energy for hard training, it's a fine, honest choice; for most people the moderate, transparent picks above are smarter.

  8. #8
    Over-stimmed (caution)
Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite, 100 rapid-release capsules — from Amazon listing

    Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite

    MuscleTech / Iovate · 270 mg caffeine anhydrous + green coffee + coleus forskohlii + yohimbe + L-theanine
SAC Product Score™ — how it breaks down
    • Transparent / effective dosing35%7.0
    • Evidence-backed ingredients30%6.6
    • Purity & testing20%7.2
    • Value (cost per serving)15%6.8

A famous, widely-sold thermogenic that actually discloses its doses — but it's heavily OVER-STIMMED (270 mg caffeine plus yohimbe), which is more side effects than payoff. Included honestly as the cautionary pick.

    Budget-to-mid — mass-market brand
    Low-mid per serving (100 caps)
    Proprietary blend?
No — doses disclosed (its one real strength)
    Caffeine
270 mg anhydrous per serving — high
    Core ingredients
    C. canephora (green coffee) + coleus forskohlii + L-theanine
    Stimulant note
Adds yohimbe — a high overall stimulant load
    Pros
    • Actually transparent — discloses 270 mg caffeine and its other doses (not a hidden blend)
    • Includes green coffee extract, the ingredient Hydroxycut's diet-and-exercise studies used
    • L-theanine is added to take some edge off the caffeine jitters
    • Cheap, ubiquitous, and easy to find in any store
    Cons
    • Heavily over-stimulated — 270 mg caffeine PLUS yohimbe means high risk of jitters, anxiety, racing heart and raised blood pressure
    • Yohimbe in particular is poorly tolerated and provokes anxiety in many users; the stimulant load is the product, not extra fat loss

Our take — Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite earns its place on the list for one honest reason — unlike its reputation, it actually discloses its doses, so you can see exactly what you're taking. The problem is what you're taking: 270 mg of caffeine anhydrous per serving plus yohimbe is a heavily over-stimulated formula, and that's precisely the thing our methodology ranks DOWN. The science rewards sensible caffeine, not a maximal stimulant stack; piling on yohimbe (which commonly triggers anxiety, a racing heart and elevated blood pressure) buys you more side effects, not more proven fat loss. It lands at #8 as the deliberate cautionary pick: a recognizable, transparent product that nonetheless illustrates the category's worst instinct — confusing 'more stimulant' with 'more results.' If you're stimulant-sensitive, avoid it; for almost everyone, a moderate, transparent burner higher on this list is the better and safer buy.

"Fat burner" is one of the most-searched and most over-hyped corners of the supplement world — so before any ranking, here's the part most listicles bury: a thermogenic fat burner is, with very few exceptions, a CAFFEINE + GREEN TEA pill with a handful of minor herbs bolted on. Strip away the 'torch fat' marketing and almost the entire measurable effect comes from the caffeine — and it is small. The best caffeine evidence is a dose-response meta-analysis (Tabrizi 2019, PMID 30335479) of 13 randomized trials in 606 people: more caffeine was associated with modestly lower body weight, BMI and fat mass. Real, but a gradual, marginal effect — and it comes bundled with the usual stimulant downsides: jitters, a faster heart rate, raised blood pressure and disrupted sleep. Green tea catechins add a little on top (~1.3 kg of extra loss/maintenance in Hursel 2009, PMID 19597519), but they're usually studied alongside caffeine, so even that is hard to separate out. Everything else on these labels is either minor (cayenne/Capsimax, forskolin), a stimulant that adds side effects rather than fat loss (bitter-orange synephrine, yohimbine), or thinly evidenced to the point of being marketing (raspberry ketones, most 'proprietary thermogenic blends'). And that word — proprietary blend — is the category's dirtiest habit: it lets a brand list a big number ('Thermo Blend: 2,000 mg') while hiding how little caffeine or green tea is actually inside, so you can't judge the dose or compare products. Pair that with relentless overhype, and you get a sector that promises a physique and delivers, at best, a slightly stronger, pricier caffeine pill. The honest verdict: a fat burner is a MARGINAL, OPTIONAL aid. The only thing on this page that reliably drives fat loss is a sustained calorie deficit, supported by protein, training and sleep. Given all that, what should a ranking optimize for? Not the biggest fat-loss claim — the most transparent, best-MADE burner. We verified eight real, currently-listed Amazon thermogenics and scored each on four things that actually differ: transparent, fully-disclosed dosing with NO proprietary blends (the heaviest weight, because opacity is the category's core sin); the evidence-backed ingredients that do the work (clinically-sensible caffeine + green tea); purity and third-party/GMP testing; and value. We reward transparency and sensible caffeine/green tea, and we DEMOTE both hidden 'proprietary blend' products and over-stimulated formulas (mega-caffeine + yohimbine) that trade more side effects for no more proven results. We rank stimulant thermogenic capsules here; pre-workout powders are a different product.

Just tell me what to buy: get Legion Phoenix (#1) — the most transparent, best-made thermogenic, with every dose disclosed (no proprietary blends), an evidence-backed green tea / synephrine / forskolin core, and caffeinated or stim-free versions. Cheapest honest, transparent burner: Jacked Factory Burn-XT (#2), a long-running Amazon best-seller with clinically-studied doses. Want the energy + focus angle, openly dosed: RSP QuadraLean Thermogenic (#3). Want to preserve muscle while cutting: Old School Labs Vintage Burn (#4). Stimulant-sensitive or taking it late in the day: Genius Burn (#5), a fully-transparent caffeine-FREE thermogenic. A reasonably-disclosed mainstream option: Cellucor SuperHD (#6), though it leans on a 'sensory blend' plus yohimbe. Want a stronger stimulant hit from a transparent brand: Burn-XT Black (#7). And the cautionary one: Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite (#8) — 270 mg of caffeine plus yohimbe is over-stimmed, more side effects than payoff. Whatever you pick, remember the honest framing: it's basically a caffeine pill — a small, optional aid on top of a calorie deficit, never instead of one.

▸ Methodology

How we ranked these eight

Each pick was scored 0-10 across four criteria, then weighted to a final composite. Transparent / effective dosing carries the most weight (35%) because the dirtiest habit in this category is the 'proprietary blend' — a label that hides how little caffeine and green tea you're actually getting. A fully disclosed label that lists every dose scores highest; a hidden blend is demoted hard. Evidence-backed ingredients (30%) rewards the two things that actually do the (small) work — clinically-sensible caffeine and green tea/EGCG — and discounts raspberry ketones and vague 'thermo' herbs. Purity & testing (20%) is third-party testing, GMP, clean (non-artificial) formulation and brand reputation, since the sector is lightly regulated. Value (15%) is cost per serving. Crucially, we penalize OVER-STIMULATION: a mega-caffeine formula stacked with yohimbine and synephrine is ranked DOWN, not up, because it trades more side effects (jitters, raised heart rate and blood pressure, anxiety, sleep loss) for no more proven fat loss. We do not invent numbers; the only clinical figures we cite are the published caffeine and green-tea meta-analyses, and we state plainly that the effect is small.

  • Transparent / effective dosing (no proprietary blends)35%

Is every ingredient listed with its real dose, or is the formula hidden inside a 'proprietary/thermogenic blend'? Fully transparent labels score highest; proprietary-blend products are demoted, because you can't judge a dose you can't see. We reward sensible amounts of caffeine and green tea over a long list of trace ingredients.

  • Evidence-backed ingredients (caffeine + green tea)30%

How much of the formula is the stuff with real (if modest) evidence — clinically-sensible caffeine and green tea/EGCG (Tabrizi 2019; Hursel 2009) — versus thinly-evidenced filler like raspberry ketones or vague thermogenic herbs. Sensible, openly-dosed caffeine + green tea scores highest; we don't reward exotic ingredient lists.

  • Purity & testing20%

Third-party testing or a public COA, GMP-certified manufacturing, a clean (non-artificial-dye) formulation, and an established brand's quality assurance. This category is lightly regulated and heavily hyped, so verification and a clean label are what separate a trustworthy product from an anonymous one.

  • Value (cost per serving)15%

Price divided by the number of servings. Because the active ingredients (caffeine, green tea) are cheap commodities, a fairly-priced transparent burner can decisively beat a premium tub. Tie-breaker — transparency and evidence do most of the ranking, but value separates otherwise-equal picks.

▸ Verdict

The bottom line

If you've read this far and just want to be told what to buy: Legion Phoenix (#1) is the overall winner — the most transparent, best-made thermogenic, with every dose disclosed (no proprietary blends), an evidence-backed core, and caffeinated or stim-free versions. Jacked Factory Burn-XT (#2) is the value champion: a transparent, clinically-dosed caffeine + green-tea burner at the lowest cost per serving. RSP QuadraLean Thermo (#3) is the energy + focus pick, Old School Labs Vintage Burn (#4) is the muscle-preserving choice for dieters who lift, and Genius Burn (#5) is the most honest caffeine-free option for stimulant-sensitive users. Cellucor SuperHD (#6) is a reasonable mainstream pick held back by a 'sensory blend' and yohimbe; Burn-XT Black (#7) is the transparent stronger-stimulant option; and Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite (#8) is the cautionary one — transparent, but over-stimmed with 270 mg caffeine plus yohimbe.

But the most important thing on this page isn't the ranking — it's the honesty. A fat burner is, with very few exceptions, a CAFFEINE + GREEN TEA pill, and the effect is SMALL: the best caffeine evidence (Tabrizi 2019) shows only a modest weight/fat reduction, and green tea (Hursel 2009) adds about a kilogram, usually alongside that same caffeine. Everything else is minor, stimulant, or marketing — and the 'proprietary blend' habit exists to hide exactly how little of the good stuff you're getting. So buy a transparent, sensibly-dosed product, treat it as the caffeine pill it is (don't stack it on top of coffee and a pre-workout), keep it earlier in the day, and watch the stimulant load. Then put your real effort where the results actually come from: a sustained calorie deficit, enough protein, resistance training, steps and sleep. Used that way — as a small, optional nudge on top of the work that matters — a fat burner is a fine thing to have. Sold as a shortcut to a six-pack, it isn't one, and we won't pretend otherwise.

The effects of caffeine intake on weight loss: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Dose-response meta-analysis of 13 randomized controlled trials (606 participants). More caffeine intake was associated with modestly lower body weight, BMI and fat mass — roughly, each doubling of caffeine corresponded to small reductions in weight, BMI and fat. This is the best evidence that the caffeine in a fat burner does something real for fat loss, but the effect is small and gradual, and caffeine carries the usual stimulant downsides (raised heart rate and blood pressure, jitter, disrupted sleep). It is the single ingredient responsible for most of a thermogenic's measurable effect.

  2. [2]
    Hursel 2009Hursel R, Viechtbauer W, Westerterp-Plantenga MS · 2009 · International Journal of Obesity (London) · PMID 19597519

The effects of green tea on weight loss and weight maintenance: a meta-analysis

Meta-analysis of 11 trials of green tea catechins. Catechins (frequently combined with caffeine) produced a small but significant reduction in body weight and helped maintain weight loss — on the order of ~1.3 kg. Supports green tea/EGCG as the second-most-evidenced fat-burner ingredient, but the effect is modest and difficult to separate from the caffeine it is usually paired with. Reinforces the page's core point: the only ingredients with real (if small) evidence are caffeine and green tea — everything else in a 'thermogenic blend' is minor or marketing.
